Most solar systems are designed to automatically shut down if there is a loss of power from the grid, such as during a storm or a scheduled maintenance outage. This is a safety feature designed to prevent your system from sending power back onto the grid when linemen are working to restore power. There are set ups available where your home can go “off grid” but they tend to be more complex and expensive to install.
