Notice is hereby given that Farmers Electric Cooperative, Inc., (the “Cooperative”) intends to change rates for electric service. Pursuant to Texas Utilities Code section 41.061, the Cooperative has adopted a resolution approving the rate changes. The rate changes are effective October 1, 2026, or as soon thereafter as may be allowed by law.
Based upon a test year ending December 31, 2025, it is expected that the proposed rate changes will increase the Cooperative’s revenue by $14,834,023 or 6.38 percent over adjusted test-year revenues. The percentage change by rate class is:

A public meeting to discuss the proposed rate changes with affected members is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 22, at Farmers Electric Cooperative’s Assembly Building B, located at 2000 Interstate Highway 30 East in Greenville.

Rising Costs Necessitate Rate Change
Farmers Electric Cooperative works diligently to provide reliable service, a sound financial condition, and stable rates. Due to inflation increasing 60% over the past, almost 20 years since the cooperative last adjusted base electric rates, the cooperative is implementing an overall base rate increase of 6.38%.
A rate analysis earlier this year was conducted to determine the most prudent approach to addressing the cooperative’s rising costs and declining margins. The cost-of-service rate study conducted by third-party experts outlined what it costs to build, maintain and operate our electric system today, and to project what will be needed to continue in the years ahead. The study recommended changes to base rates, which will become effective in October. Farmers Electric, after the rate changes are implemented, will continue to provide members with stable, affordable electric rates competitive with other electric distribution providers here in north Texas.
The cooperative has utilized a multi-pronged approach to keep rates steady despite rising costs. These include a robust right-of-way management program, pole inspections and damaged pole remediation, drone surveys, comprehensive maintenance, continuous planning for growth, and the aggressive use of cutting-edge system technology. Vendors, contractors, and suppliers are routinely reviewed to ensure that the cooperative can meet the goals outlined above in the most cost-effective manner.

The last electric rate change was made almost two decades ago – in May 2007. The reason is increased costs for utility poles, copper and aluminum wire, and just about everything else required to provide reliable electrical service.
The Cooperative continuously monitors the financial stability of the organization to determine if or when a rate increase is necessary. To establish the new rate structure, an independent firm conducted a rate analysis to determine future system needs and to understand what it takes to build, maintain and operate our electric system today, and to project what will be needed in the future.
The new rates are effective October 1, 2026, and will be reflected on your bill thereafter.

The cooperative has no other rate increases planned.
We recognize our responsibility to keep bills as low as possible. Where possible and responsible, we’re extending the productive life of our equipment. An example is our ongoing pole inspection program. Early detection avoids costly emergency replacements and reduces the need for reactive repairs. When poles are found to be weakened, we apply targeted remedial treatments—such as removing decayed wood to extend their safe service.
